$30 fan or $45 AAA? The choice is functional, not status.

"Player version" is industry shorthand for the same garment specification players wear on the field — the version with engineered-mesh fabric, body-mapped ventilation, tighter tailored fit, and laser-cut sleeve hems. "Fan version" is the cheaper, more relaxed-fit version released alongside it for buyers who want the look without the performance. We coordinate both at $30 fan / $45 AAA. The Putian factories run both fits from the same pattern files; the difference is real but not always relevant. This page tells you when it matters.

The four functional differences

1. Fabric weight and breathability

Fan version uses standard polyester knit at 180-195 g/m². AAA player version uses engineered mesh at 140-160 g/m². The mesh has body-mapped ventilation — denser weave on areas without sweat glands, looser weave on the back, chest, and underarms where sweat is heavy. Lab-tested moisture-wicking on the engineered mesh is about 40% better than standard polyester knit. For a 90-minute summer 5-a-side game in 30°C heat: this is the difference between a soaked shirt and a dry-feeling shirt. For a sofa watch party in air-conditioned rooms: invisible.

2. Fit (tailored vs relaxed)

Fan version is cut relaxed — same fit as the licensed retail $90 fan replica, slightly boxy, with about 4 cm extra ease around the chest and torso. AAA is cut tailored — narrower at the waist, slightly shorter, designed to fit close to the body. For a 175cm/70kg male, fan size M fits M; AAA size M fits more like a slim S. Order one size up on AAA if you prefer fan-version fit; that’s the most common sizing question we get.

3. Sleeve cuff and neck construction

Fan: stitched hem on sleeves, woven label at neck, standard collar. AAA: laser-cut sleeve hem (no seam), woven label at neck with internal taping, flat-lock collar (no irritation point). The laser-cut sleeves on AAA matter for active wear — no chafe, no friction during arm motion. For watching matches: invisible difference.

4. Wash longevity

Fan version: 30-40 wash cycles before colour fade or print degradation. AAA: 50+ wash cycles, with engineered fabric specifically resistant to chlorine bleach and fabric softener residue. Both heat-bonded crests survive indefinitely; the difference is in the printed numbers and the overall fabric look.

The fan-version buyer is typically watching matches in front of a TV, attending a match in mild weather, or buying as a gift for someone whose primary use is display. The AAA buyer typically plays competitive 5-a-side, lives in a hot climate, or specifically wants the player-issue feel for collection authenticity reasons. Neither answer is wrong — it’s a functional choice based on use case.

How to decide, in 30 seconds

Pick fan version ($30) if: you’re going to wear it for casual fan use, occasional matches in mild weather, or gift it to someone who’ll wear it casually. Most of our customers are this case.

Pick AAA player version ($45) if: you play competitive football and want the engineered-mesh feel, you live in a hot/humid climate where summer breathability is real, or you specifically want the authentic player-issue spec for collection reasons.
